“Although I knew how to teach God’s word, I didn’t know how to minister to students who were in the middle of trauma. I knew that if I was going to work with hurting kids, I needed some specialized training in trauma so I could love and meet them where they were. I was soon informed that there was an I.F.O.C. chaplaincy training near me. I attended that training and became a Chaplain.
12 years later, I wish every teacher and youth pastor had this kind of training because if you don’t know how to work with people in trauma, you really can’t work with youth today.”
Kevin R, I.F.O.C. School Chaplain
“It’s neat to see relationships grow, especially after a couple of years. You see students continually and get to hear about their struggles, but you also get to hear about their successes.
Being there consistently has been such a blessing in building relationships and pouring into these kids’ lives, getting to know them, and loving them.”
Michelle M., I.F.O.C. School Chaplain
“Although we have many dedicated teachers and good students, there are a lot of challenges these days that make it difficult for children to thrive. I believe God has a real heart for the children…he hears their cries. My heart went out to what other people were dealing with. That’s what got me started.”

1. Do I become a licensed school chaplain when I complete the course?
While the School Chaplain Training Course is a fantastic addition to your resume, it does not provide licensure upon completion. If you’d like to complete the additional training and licensing to become a chaplain, click here to learn more.
2. If I’m already a licensed/ordained I.F.O.C. Chaplain, does completing this course make me a credentialed I.F.O.C. School Chaplain?
No. Becoming a credentialed I.F.O.C. School Chaplain requires completion of both the Tier 1 Advanced Chaplain Program and the Tier 2 School Chaplain specialty classes.
3. Does completing this course guarantee me a job or position as a School Chaplain?
Each school district decides their own requirements for all their employees and volunteers, so the I.F.O.C. does not guarantee a position as a school chaplain.. Completion of this course, and the I.F.O.C. Chaplaincy Course, licensing, and Advanced Chaplaincy program, helps demonstrate competence and that you hold a professional Chaplain license when you apply for employment or a volunteer position in your school district.
4. What are the requirements in my state and school district for a School Chaplain Position?
Laws are subject to frequent changes and revisions and each school district is free to determine their own requirements for any open position. It is important for each individual to be aware of the state and local laws that pertain to School Chaplaincy in their area. It is also important to contact your local school district, or do research on their website, to determine if they have open positions and what requirements they have for them.
