Online Assisting Individuals in Crisis

This is a 2-day ICISF certificate course taught online via Zoom. Class times are Central Standard Time (CST)
Course Description:
Crisis Intervention is NOT psychotherapy; rather, it is a specialized acute emergency mental health intervention which requires specialized training. As physical first aid is to surgery, crisis intervention is to psychotherapy. Thus, crisis intervention is sometimes called “emotional first aid”. This program is designed to teach participants the fundamentals of, and a specific protocol for, individual crisis intervention. This course is designed for anyone who desires to increase their knowledge of individual (one-on-one) crisis intervention techniques in the fields of Business & Industry, Crisis Intervention, Disaster Response, Education, Emergency Services, Employee Assistance, Healthcare, Homeland Security, Mental Health, Military, Spiritual Care, and Traumatic Stress.

Certificates and Continuing Education:
General Contact Hours:
Two-Day Course; 13 Contact Hours: 1.4 General CEUs from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) Dept. of Emergency Health Services Professional and Continuing Education (PACE). Based on a formula of 1 Continuing Education Unit for every 10 contact/classroom hours.
ICISF Certificate of Completion:
After the completion of this ICISF course, with verified full attendance, participants are eligible to receive an electronic ICISF Certificate of Completion, including General Continuing Education Units. Participants are required to complete a course evaluation prior to receiving this Certificate of Completion.
Students will need a device to join the online meeting with the internet, a microphone, and webcam/video capabilities (such as a computer, tablet, or smartphone). Downloading the Zoom application and testing it prior to class is strongly recommended.
Every student attending must register individually.
The course includes periodic breaks and a 30-minute lunchtime. Students must attend the entire training and participate in breakout sessions to receive a Certificate of Completion.
Registration fees are transferable or refundable up to the early bird date. Registration fees are transferrable after the early bird date. Registration fees are not transferrable or refundable after the student receives the electronic class manual the day prior to the course.
The instructor is not able to help students navigate trouble with the Zoom platform. Students must request technical assistance from Zoom directly if they have difficulty. Refunds for technical support issues will only be granted if the issue is on I.F.O.C.’s side.
Students will receive the Zoom link to join the class and course materials 24 hours before the class. A reminder email will be sent out the day before the meeting.

Note: Training may be canceled in rare cases due to low registrations. If it should become necessary to cancel a class, IFOC will notify the students no later than 14 days before the class.
